Effects of a Self-Management Intervention Using Visual Cues on the Coffee Making Skills of a Student with Autism Spectrum Disorder : Single-Subject Research

Abstract
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of a self-management intervention, using visual cues, on the coffee making skills of a student with autism spectrum disorder. Multiple probe design across behaviors was applied. The subject of the study was a male high school student with autism spectrum disorder. The intervention was comprised of a baseline phase, an intervention phase, a generalization phase, and a maintenance phase. The coffee making skills of the research participant were measured using the same type of coffee machine at a cafein the local community throughout the study. Results are as follows: First, the self-management intervention using visual cues showed positive effect on coffee making skills of the participating student. Second, if the same type of coffee machine was used, coffee making skills improved from the use of visual cue were generalized in a different cafelocated in the local community. Third, the coffee making skills of the student participant with autism spectrum disorder were maintained three weeks after the discontinuation of the intervention.
